LEARNING OUTCOMES

🔵 🔴 🟡 Course description

The course aims to present the properties of Color as a visual phenomenon and the way in which it affects perception. At the same time, in the application of Color in the formation of visual compositions, in terms of the aesthetic effects it creates.

Upon successful completion of the courses, students will be able to:

  • understand the properties of Color as a visual formal element that interacts with Design, Tonality, Lighting, Volume, Textures, Sound, its role in visual composition and the way in which it composes and gives meaning to space.
  • compose color compositions and color charts, and apply Color aesthetically and practically.
  • get to know Color as a vocabulary of different artists and make choices.
  • use Color as a semantic element that affects perception.
  • apply and support their choices with presentations of color compositions/bibliography/ergography.

Theoretical concepts: Color theory, color circles, color star, color sphere, complementary colors, color-light-texture, color reality and color effect, interaction, harmony, balance, symmetry, tonality of colors. Color harmonies. Color contrasts. After-visual mixing. Color and Design. Color and Space. Synesthesia-Timbre. Color chords. Color and multi-sensory aesthetics. Color semiotics. The study of color in artists and art movements. Digital colors

Explanation of laboratory hours: It will be done in parallel with the theory, with color exercises, color compositions, color charts, color issues related to the aesthetics of the space, the garment, the scenography. The work will be done individually or in groups, mixing pigments/digital processing/models/collages. As a final work, there will be a presentation of visual proposals or a project of public presentation of group work, which will be documented by a short theoretical support work

EVALUATION

Language of assessment: Greek and English

🔵 🔴 🟡 Evaluation method:

  • Formative assessment (40%) including:

    1. Presentation of the dossier and Draft of the final work, with a documentation text of 300 words. 10%

    2. Presentation of a dossier and artistic work, with a documentation text of 300 words. 10%

    3. Progress: presentation of the dossier and the development of the initial Draft, with a documentation text of 300 words. 20%

  • Final evaluation (60%) which includes: a) the final presentation in digital form or plastic model or project in the space. The final presentation can be group, but will be accompanied by an individual documentation text of 300 words that will include influences/references to artists, bibliography, artists' works, and presentation of the folder.

    Note: *The folder refers to the personal research done by the students in stages, from the beginning of the course and may contain sketches, photographs, videos, notes-remarks, references to artists, collages, and general sketches-drafts (dated), in relation to the processing of the final work. Also all presentations (with presentation date) which precede the final work.
